First miracle...

If you ask Shawnie, the first miracle happened when we stopped in at Shriners yesterday for our pre-op. Yesterday morning-before she even read your note, Uncle Rob, she batted her eyes at Keith and said "We need to stop at build-a-bear, I need a Selena Gomez build-a-bear for my surgery! Keith just laughed at her and said no. So after her x-ray, the tech brought in a very familiar looking box and said, "Are you too old for a teddy bear for your surgery?" and handed her a build-a-bear. It's not Selena Gomez, but it was close enough. You should have seen the look of satisfaction on her face when she showed it to Keith. My favorite miracle of the day, though, happened with the pre-op blood work. We ONLY draw blood at Primary's and we ALWAYS request the IV team because she is the Hardest Poke Ever and it ALWAYS is traumatic, usually taking even the IV team at least two tries. So we requested them and waited for them and when they went to poke, there was a big, beautiful fat vein that I think I could even have poked!! It slid right in, no fighting with rubber veins or squeezing to get enough blood out, in fact, they had to wrap it tight to even get it to stop when she was done! I almost felt dumb for making them come... Well, she has been in for just over an hour. She was so scared this morning but her strength and composure has amazed us. I dont think I'll share our conversation with the anesthesiologist, only that it didnt make us feel any more comfortable about the procedure, actually, i'm pretty sick right now. They are going to keep us updated all day though, and Dr. Santora brought Dr. D'Astous over to help him with it- between the two of them, she couldn't be in better hands for the procedure. Thanks so much again for all of your thoughts and prayers. It was so good for her all day yesterday to read the kind messages. She even asked to read more this morning while we were waiting. Some of them made us laugh until we couldn't breathe (Rob...) and some of them made me cry until I couldn't breathe. She is so blessed to have the incredible people in her life that you are.

  1. To Mel.....

Please know that I am thinking of you and saying little prayers for you all. You are an amazing Mother! Your girls could not even hope for a better Mom! You have always inspired me to be a better person. I know the last thing we as mothers ever want to see is our child go through something tramatic. It would be wonderful if we could take away their pain and trials and endure them for them.

When we were teenagers, and I was going through a really rough time in my life, you gave me a tape with music on it for me. There was a song on it by Michael W. Smith called A Place In This World. Do you remember that? To this day, whenever I am needed to be uplifted, I sing it to myself. That song has been a saving grace for me many many times. I thank you for being such a wonderful friend to me during those rough times, and always. There is a song that I would love to offer you that I hope may help you when things get tough. It is Rascal Flats- I Won't Let Go. If you havn't heard it, you should google the lyrics. It is an amazing song.

I know that there are going to be many trials in the near future. Please know that we are praying for you all. If you need anything at all, even if just to talk, I am here for you. We are going to try to figure out a day in the next couple weeks that we can come down and visit.

Hold strong to your faith. With the Lord, we can endure.

    Love you always....Jen

  2. Hi Shawnie and Melanie!

I hope that everything is going well so far. It sounds like you guys are in capable hands at the hospital and you have a game plan.

I just went to the hospital too, last week to have our second baby! I was scared too--I hate getting poked too (the IV is the worst! and I'm such a baby! I'm sure Shawnie handles it way better than I do). But even though I was scared and we were really worried about how everything would go, it all worked out really smoothly and quickly and there weren't any complications. I really think it was because people were praying for me and had put my name in the temple. I will make sure to pray for you to help everything go smoothly and without complications for you too!

Shawnie, you would think my new baby girl is so cute. Her name is Taylie Ryan and she is so sweet and small and she really doesn't even fuss much (way different than Jackson was as a baby!). I hope that when she grows up she'll be as nice and as thoughtful as you always are. You were always such a good example to me because you always wanted people to feel happy and good and you never ever wanted to hurt anyone's feelings. You really taught me a lot more than I ever taught you during your fifth grade year.

I saw a quote one time that said "Sometimes the only way out is through." Hopefully things will be better once surgery is over and you've recovered.

I'll be thinking about you and we'll pray for you!
