one step back

It was about time we had a bad day.  Everyone has been telling us all along how well she's coming and how fast her recovery is progressing.  Today it all caught up to us.  Before the surgery, the doctors told us that day 3 was the hardest.  On day 4, Dr. Santora said that days 3 and 4 are the hardest.  Then the PT said that days 3, 4, and 5 seem to be the hardest.  Day 5 has definitely been our hardest.  Our poor angel just couldn't get rid of the pain.  No matter what medication, massaging, positioning, she was struggling.  It was so hard to see her spirits sink so low and not be able to do what needed to be done to make it go away.

She started out the day in pretty good spirits and was so excited to see good friends that came to visit.  The bandage over her incision was removed by the doctor this morning, the feel of it afterwards made her crazy and the nurse had to cover it up with gauze to calm her down.  It is a really long cut.  But he did an amazing job and I can tell already that it is going to heal up nicely.  Because her IV went bad and wouldn't flush, she got it out this afternoon.  That was definitely a moment that we cheered. We also got some discouraging news that the spine x-ray showed that she still has a hiatal hernia that is pushing her intestines through her diaphragm squishing her lungs that will most likely have to be fixed in the next couple of months. It was just fixed in September.  Bum.mer.

Tomorrow is a new day and I'm positive it will be better than today.  Wheelchair fitting at 9 a.m. Teeny tiny possibility that we could just maybe go home in the afternoon.  If not tomorrow, then Friday for sure.  We are definitely ready.

If you feel like it later today, facetime us and show us your new wheels! I would love to see them and I imagine Wyatt would love to as well.
I sure love you tons! (That includes you and your whole family!)
