room 2032

We made it out of ICU as planned this morning.  She is now in the neuroscience trauma unit, room 2032. On Monday, she will most likely transfer over to Shriners because she is doing so well and Dr. Santora can keep an eye on her better.  She is not feeling the best, obviously. In fact, she hasn't even been able to open her eyes since she came out of surgery because of the medication and swelling.  The extra blood product and fluids they gave her doesn't have anywhere to go and her body isn't letting go of it, so her little body, eyelids included, is swelling pretty good right now.  Her speech is even more slurred than usual and she's getting mad when we don't understand what she's saying. :o)  I know no one believes she has a temper...
But she has TWO epidurals in her back and is in very little pain. They will stay in until Monday.  She only slept a total of about 2 hours last night, she told me it was because she'd had such a long nap yesterday...  She's sleeping a lot today and I'm wondering if that means we'll be having another adventurous night!  Before she left the ICU, they took out the arterial line in her wrist and the central line in her neck.  I'm pretty tough, but that one made me woozy.  Watching a 'wider than and long as spaghetti' sized tube being pulled out of your daughter's neck isn't really on my list of top 10 favorites. Blah.  It got stuck and the charge nurse had to come and help pry it out.
She is back on oxygen. The meds make her de-sat pretty bad.  She refuses to wear the nasal cannula so they are just sneaking blow-by oxygen in her face while she's asleep now. She laughed a couple of times this morning when I was trying to pry her eyelids open because she was sure she was blind, and she is more awake and alert all the time.  I can't wait for her to come back to us.  I've been missing her smiles and laughs, and even the teasing and tricks that she lives for.  She's still listening to all the messages that are sent, it's made all the difference in the world for her.

  5. Wow Shawnie...you are such a trooper!!! I'm so glad things have gone so well!!! You know it's that spunky personality of yours that's helped you recover so fast!!! I say that to Ry all the time :) Mel...you and Keith holding out ok?? Gosh...listening to all that's going on sure brings back alot of memories!!! I had to always remind myself the bossyness is a great thing...it means they're feeling well enough to express what they feel. To me that's a heck of alot better then having them lay there not saying anything at all...that's when I always get nervous!!! So Shawnie...boss away :) Love you guys and want you to know we are all thinking of you and our prayers are with you!!! Shawnie keep up the good work...we want to see you up dancing in no time!!!

  8. What an inspiring young woman you are Shawnie. You have blessed our lives and the lives of our family in numerous ways. Heavenly Father blessed us forever when He placed you in our family. He blessed you with “couldn’t be better parents”, an incredible sister, and an extended family whose love for you knows no bounds. We hope that you feel that love now and that it will cover you like a warm snuggly quilt and bring you comfort and peace....and a quick recovery.
