progress

First thing this morning we rolled Shawnie's bed back down for another chest xray to make sure that everything was ok since the tube-pulling yesterday.  We were discouraged to find that there was a small pocket of air called a neurotoma or something like that (I'm tired...) But our surgeon stopped by to visit this morning and looked at it and said it was miniscule and not a problem to be concerned with. Then he told Shawnie that the NG tube was going to be a part of her life at least until Monday.  She burst into tears. She is so done with it.  But he wants to make sure that her stomach is all healed up before he starts sending stuff through.  We've been trying to cut back on the pain meds because they slow down her system and her tummy is having a hard time waking up.  The tube is still pulling up lots of stuff, and it has to slow down significantly in order for her tummy to be digesting appropriately.  She was still so sad when the doctor left, but then Keith told us that he ran into some good friends down in the lobby whose daughter was in a car crash last night and had been rushed down here to the ICU during the night. She recognized then that her life could be worse and she happied up a bit.  One of her IV's plugged up, so she was able to have it taken out this morning.  Later in the day, our nurse was able to get permission to pull out the other IV too!  She has been off oxygen all day today as well. Which means we're down to the NG tube, the pic line and the monitors.  She was able to be up a little bit more today, but was still mostly down, but she's been awake and alert all day, which has been fun.
We were able to spend some time with the friends that are here with their daughter as well as a good friend that stopped by and surprised us. We also found a very creative way to wash Shawnie's hair and she had a bit of a spa day.  Although she said it didn't feel much like a spa...

  1. Hey Beautiful!!! Sounds like a tough road you're going down. Good thing you're tougher. We miss you and are thinking of you often. Hope all keeps going better and you can come home soon. You're a great example to us all. Please let us know if there's anything you need or want,Brian will be heading to SLC on Tuesday for work and be there for a couple days.
We took the family to see "Beauty and the Beast" on Thursday night and kept looking for your sister- couldn't see her anywhere, then as we were leaving we saw her in the hall. I didn't even recognize her. She did a great job-the whole cast was amazing. I hope someone video it so you can see it- wait until you're healed enough to laugh a lot. It was funny too.
I hope you keep getting better and stronger everyday. Thanks for being a great friend to Cassidy too. We all sure love and miss you.
